Jeroen Vrolijk (Born, 1973 in Etten- Leur)
He spent his youth in the south of Holland already taken by the drummer virus. At the age of 6 he got his first drum set and his first public performance took place at the local theatre when he was only 7 years old. Growing up in the influence of a musical environment Jeroen got his training through drum corps, music school and the national renowed High School for Music and Dance in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. At the age of 18 he joined the Casino Showband and toured extensively throughout Holland. Performing with Dutch artists and occasional touring in Thailand and Cambodia introduced him to an international audience. In 1997 he graduated at the Dutch Conservatory in Rotterdam and moved to Haarlem where he engaged in numerous activities including live an studio work. His international touring schedule has taken him all over Europe and Northern Africa. Besides his work as a drummer, he also is involved as a writer of drum method books.
Tierolff Muziekcentrale published his first drum instructional book the Heronimus Drummethod part I in October 2006. Over the past few years, Jeroen has been venturing into the Dutch scene by promoting his own percussion events called Beat you heart out. This new platform for learning to play the drums (Heronimus method) and percussion workshops has lead to a collaboration between companies/co operations Dutch conservatories and music schools where he currently holds a teaching position (Haarlem, Zaandam). Recent performances and recordings have earned him rave reviews in the Slagwerkkrant, Dutch drummagazine and MusicMaker magazine.
As a sideman,
Jeroen Vrolijk performed and/or recorded with a great variety of artists covering a wide range of musical styles such as DJs Erick E, Fedde leGrand, jazz and fusion greats like Rich Margitza, Oz Noy, David Fuze Fiuczynski, Tim Lefebvre, Fima Ephron, Martijn van Iterson, Rolf Delfos, Tom Beek, Ben van den Dungen, Benjamin Herman and Anton Goudsmit. A rock group called Silkstone with whom he a single "The rain has come" which charted number 19 at the Dutch Top 40. Dutch artists like Frans Bauer, Andre Hazes, Lee Towers, Trijntje Oosterhuis, Marco Borsato and many more.
Jeroen also built himself a reputation as a skilled and creative solo performer/clinician. He appeared at the last Drumday (2006) at the Dutch Rock Academy in Tilburg and organized already five impressive drumdays, the first and second "Haarlemse Slagwerkdag" (2005, 2006) Two days in Zaandam called the "Zaanse Slagwerkdag" (2007) and "Drums by the Sea" in Zandvoort, Holland. |
